Kaylah Marin in New York

I had a chance to go to New York this last weekend and work with new indie Alternative Neo-Soul singer, Kaylah Marin. She did a 4 day mini-tour and showcase which included appearances at Splash Bar and Fox News' Strategy Room. Here are some behind the scenes of Kaylah and the Cd cover that Dimitry L. photographed for her new club mix cd. Big shout-out to Jennifer Lyneis of UE3 Promotions for hooking up the trip.

My Emmy Award experience

With coming of fall, here in Los Angeles, also comes the beginning of award season. One of my favorite things to do is hair and make-up for an actress or director or anyone going to one of these big events.

This last week I got to do one of my favorite actresses for the 2009 Alma Awards. Francia Raisa works on the hit show "Secret Life of the American Teen" and was nominated for best actress in a drama series for her role as Adrian. I did her make-up for the red carpet and show while her hairstylist Gabby hooked up her hair. Of course, she looked amazing.

I also had a chance to do Irish Director, Dearblha Walsh and her partner Anna Nolan, for the Primetime Emmys. She was nominated for Best Director for Outstanding Miniseries ( Little Dorrit.) I was able to do both her hair and makeup for the Red Carpet and Show. Since she lives in Dublin, Ireland, she was telling me how she was enjoying Los Angeles and the whole Emmy experience, even though she probably would not win.

So later when the show aired, I happened to catch the presentation for Best Director and what do you know, Ms. Walsh won!! I jumped up screaming at the TV.....so excited for her and then giddy at the fact that my hair and make-up would be seen on national TV. And she looked amazing.... hee hee

Actors on the Rise

A few months ago, Dimitry and I had a chance to shoot Paulo Constanzo. He was in the middle of shooting this new series and took time out for this photo shoot. The series, Royal Pains, is now a bonafide hit and one of my favorite shows.

We also had a chance to do a photo shoot with the new bad boy on 90210, Matt Lanter, who plays Liam Court. He is also the voice of Anakin Skywalker on the Cartoon Network series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." We had a great time working with such a nice guy.

Behind the Scenes with my friend TJ

Last week I went and saw my all -time favorite singer, Rachelle Ferrell at the Catalina Bar and Grill in Hollywood. She was amazing as usual and after 20 years of following her and seeing her perform, I am still amazed. After the show I chatted with her sound engineer, Terry Jackson (TJ), well-known as being one of the best sound men in the business. You name an artist, he has probably worked on their album or tour. He invited me to come and hang for a bit at the rehearsal of the new EWF / Chicago tour. I love music and to see my favorite group behind the scenes was a blast. Thanks a million to my friend, TJ, for the VIP treatment.

Celebrity Trainer Valerie Waters

This is behind the scenes picture of Valerie Water's photo shoot for her new "I want my Bikini Body" workout. I got a chance to meet Celebrity Trainer, Valerie Waters, last week at a commercial shoot. We hit if off and she asked me do her and her models' hair and make-up for her new workout. Valerie is the creator of the Valslide and is regularly featured on Access Hollywood and E! News. She is the first person called by Hollywood’s elite when they need to either get in shape or stay that way. I use my Valslides to keep me in shape when I can't get to the gym.

Shine on Me.....

I finally had a chance to go to UCLA's yearly, Festival of Books. If you love books like I do, it is a not to be missed festival. Along with lots of books, there were different stages with music, cooking demonstrations, kid's entertainment, poetry readings and more. Some of Saturday's celebrity authors that were on hand to speak and sign books were, Tori Spelling, Alyssa Milano, Tom Bergeron and Bob Barker.

I, however, was most excited about my Bay Area friend, Dexter Vizinau, coming to LA and doing a book signing for his book, Shine on Me. It is an amazing story about his Mother and how she raised both him and his brother, in spite of being blind. It was great to see Dexter in action and I was able to get a picture with him. Knowing Dexter, this will be made into a movie so I will keep you posted.

Weddings are coming.....

Well, seems like spring has sprung and wedding season is in full force. I had a chance to do the hair and make-up for a good friend of mine, Cara, for her wedding on the beach. She and her fiance wanted to keep it simple so they had no bridesmaids and groomsmen....so I just insisted on doing her hair and make-up for her and her Mom. She loved the results and so did I......

A Real Haircut

My Friend, Michelle, decided to get her hair cut after about 5 years of wearing it really long. Actually, the last time I cut it was about 2 1/2 years ago and I cut it to the middle of her back. So in 2 1/2years it grew about 3 feet. Amazing.....anyway, Michelle said it was getting heavy and uncomfortable and that it was time to change...... so I cut off 2 large and heavy braids and gave her a really cute cut.

President Obama Artwork

My dear friend and Artist, Dan Wooster, has created this amazing likeness of our new President. I can say that I have never had a picture of a president in my house but with my Obama obsession, this new art piece thrilled me. Dan is known for his large pieces, usually 5ft by 3ft and larger. This piece is 11inches tall and 7 inches wide. It is painted on 1 inch thick wood which gives it a slight 3-D effect. Each one is slightly different, but Dan captures the President's likeness, suberbly. These will be limited edition pieces, so hurray and get yours today. You can call Dan at 818 398-2064 to order your piece.

Mr. President

Wow!!! Words cannot explain the joy and pride I felt while glued to the TV witnessing history unfold while watching the inaugural events...... At last, we have a President that has poise and grace, humility and charm, confidence and intelligence!! I was mesmerized as I watched the new first couple (a real example of a loving couple) drive and then walk down the parade route. I'm glad I didn't have to brave the cold....but I found myself taking pictures of the TV as if I was on the parade route.......

My very own Shepard Fairey

One of the first posters I saw of President Obama was the Shepard Fairey design that is now famous. I fell in love with Shepard Fairey's design and was able to get one of the limited edition posters. Now you can have one of his designs done in your own image. Make your own "Obamicon" — your image in a style inspired by Shepard Fairey's iconic poster.
